Oh my goodness! You guys, these donuts are every chocolate lovers dream. We have cocoa powder, mini chocolate chips and a chocolate glaze followed by a generous serving of sprinkles. Because who doesn’t love sprinkles?! I love how they really brighten up the donut and give it that wow factor! After all, we often eat with our eyes first and boy do these catch my eye. If I haven’t already convinced you to give this recipe a try I hope the pictures throughout this post will do so!
Not only are these donuts packed with chocolate flavor but they are easy to make and will please little kids, your work office or any donut lover out there. I’d hate to categorize them as a dessert or breakfast item because honestly I’d enjoy a donut at any time of the day so why put a label on it?!
I adapted this recipe from my Double Chocolate Chip Banana Bread, which is amazing so I knew these were going to be a hit. The donuts are also very easy to make so if you have little ones they will surely be able to help! And I bet they would love to give those donuts a dunk in the icing and throw some sprinkles on top. Heck, they may even enjoy piping the donut into the donut pan or licking the bowl (because that’s a must when it comes to baking).
When I shared the pictures of the donuts with my family my mom said they looked professionally made. Not to toot my own horn, but I am rather happy with how they turned out and loved the touch of the sprinkles. So, I hope you get the same excitement out of them as I did!
Once the donuts are all put together you have two choices:
1. DEVOUR THEM AND SHARE WITH FRIENDS
2. There isn’t a second choice because I hope you go with the first one 🙂
Happy baking my friends!
Love and donuts,
- 1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour or Kodiak Cakes Power Mix
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder
- 1/8 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup bananas, mashed
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips
- Sprinkles (optional)
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar
- 3 TB cocoa powder
- 3 TB milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
Preheat oven to 350.
Mix all dry ingredients together except the mini chocolate chips. In a separate bowl combine all the wet ingredients.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until combined.
Mix in the mini chocolate chips.
Pour the donut batter into a gallon sized ziploc bag. Squeeze any excess air out of bag and seal it shut. Using scissors, cut a small hole at the bottom corner of the bag.
Pipe donut batter into a greased donut pan. Fill donut pan about 3/4 of the way full.
Bake in oven for 10-11 minutes at 350. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes before removing from pan. Continue to let donuts cool on a wired baking rack.
While donuts are baking, prepare the icing.
Mix together the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, milk and vanilla. Make sure glaze is smooth and set in refrigerator until donuts are completely cooled.
Once donuts are completely cooled, dip the top of the donut into the icing. Allow excess icing to drip into bowl before placing donut back on wired rack.
After all the donuts have been dipped, throw a dash of sprinkles on each one and enjoy!
